Privacy & Data Policy
Last updated October 7, 2026
Drifters World is a hobby game run by a small team. We collect as little as we need to run it, we do not sell your data, and we do not use it for anything except operating the game. This page explains what that means in practice.
The short version
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. Ever.
- We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than running the game.
- We never store or print your password in plain text.
- We use your email address only to facilitate account assistance.
- The game is for players 13 and older.
What we collect
Account information. Your email address, your password (see below), whether you told us you are 18 or older, and the content rating that follows from that choice.
Game activity. Your characters and their progress, playtime, login times, and what you do in the game world, including in-game communication such as channels and tells. This is the game's own data, and it is how the game works.
Content you post. Forum posts, journal entries, comments, and wiki edits. Anything you post publicly can be read by anyone who can view that part of the site, so don't post anything you want to keep private.
Technical information. Like most servers, ours may record basic technical details such as IP addresses and error logs, used for security, abuse prevention, and troubleshooting.
How we use it
We use the information above only to:
- Run the game and the website, and keep your characters and progress saved.
- Let you sign in and stay signed in.
- Provide account assistance, such as helping you recover access to your account.
- Keep the game safe and enforce the rules, including investigating abuse, cheating, and harassment.
- Fix bugs and keep the service running.
Your email address is used only to facilitate account assistance. We do not send marketing email and we do not share your address with anyone for marketing.
We do not sell your data
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone, and we do not use it for advertising or for any purpose other than running Drifters World. We do not run third-party advertising or advertising trackers on the site.
We may disclose information only if:
- the law, a court order, or a valid legal request requires it;
- it is necessary to protect the safety of a person or the security of the service; or
- the game changes hands (for example, a transfer of ownership), in which case the new owner would be bound by this policy or we would tell you first.
The infrastructure that hosts the game (servers, hosting, and network providers) necessarily handles data on our behalf. They are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
Security
We offer encryption in transit options, so your connection to the site and the game can be protected from eavesdropping. No password is ever stored or printed in plain text.
No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a password you do not use anywhere else, and never share it. Staff will never ask you for your password.
Staying signed in
When you sign in, the website stores a login token in your browser's local storage so you are recognised on later visits. If you choose “Remember me”, we also store a longer-lived token that lets you stay signed in for up to 30 days at a time and refreshes itself while you keep playing. Signing out removes these tokens from your browser. On a shared or public computer, leave “Remember me” unchecked and sign out when you are done.
We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking. We also save small preferences such as your theme and active character in your browser.
How long we keep it
We keep account and game data for as long as your account exists. Backups and logs may retain data for a limited time afterwards. Content you posted publicly may remain after your account is closed, though we can remove or anonymise it on request where reasonable.
Your choices
You can ask us to tell you what we hold about your account, correct it, or delete your account and associated personal data. Contact the staff through the forum or in game. We may need to verify that you own the account first, and we may keep limited records where needed for security, to prevent abuse, or to meet legal obligations.
Children and minors
Drifters World is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are under 13, please do not create an account. If we learn that an account belongs to a child under 13, we will delete it and its data. If you believe a child has signed up, please let us know.
Players aged 13 to 17 are welcome, but accounts that are not marked as 18 or older receive a restricted content rating, and some features and content may be unavailable. Minors should have the permission of a parent or guardian, and should not share personal information (real name, address, school, phone number) in chat, the forum, or anywhere else on the site. Parents or guardians may contact us to review or delete a minor's account.
The game is a shared online world with player-to-player communication. We moderate it, but we cannot monitor everything, and parents should supervise their children's online activity.
Where your data lives
Our servers may be located outside the country where you live. By using the game you understand that your information may be processed and stored in other jurisdictions.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the game changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make a significant change, we will post a notice on the site. Continuing to use the game after a change means you accept the updated policy.
Questions
If anything here is unclear, ask the staff on the forum or in game.
